The SUNBIO project participated in a cross-sector innovation meeting held on 4 April 2025 at the premises of the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC). SUNBIO was represented by Dr. Damianos Chatzievangelou (ICM-CSIC) and joined by scientists from the Consiglio per la ricerca in agricoltura e l’analisi dell’economia agraria (CREA) to explore potential synergies between precision agriculture and marine research.
The meeting focused on identifying common methodological and technological approaches that could bridge terrestrial and marine ecosystems, particularly through the use of advanced monitoring, data integration, and 3D environmental modeling. Discussions highlighted the increasing importance of cross-sector collaboration in addressing complex environmental challenges and advancing sustainable innovation.
During the exchange, SUNBIO was presented as a reference example, with particular emphasis on the OHRES platform. The platform was described using a conceptual analogy to a tree-like structure, where different functional components create a vertically integrated ecosystem: the “roots” represented by the seabed anchoring system, the “trunk” corresponding to the mooring infrastructure, and the “canopy” symbolized by the energy converter.
The discussion underscored the importance of cross-sector collaboration in addressing complex environmental challenges through innovative monitoring approaches.
