The SUNBIO project was presented at the XLIV Congreso de Ciencias del Mar, held on May 29, 2025, in Chile — one of the most prominent marine science conferences in Latin America. The symposium, titled “Desafíos para el ordenamiento pesquero: cogestión, evaluación de estrategias de manejo, recuperación de ecosistemas y cambio climático”, served as a high-impact platform to explore sustainable fisheries governance, ecosystem recovery, and climate resilience strategies.
Representing the SUNBIO project, Dr. Jacopo Aguzzi from the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM-CSIC) and project coordinator, actively participated in discussions addressing critical challenges and collaborative governance frameworks for the sustainable management of marine resources. His presence underscored the interdisciplinary nature of SUNBIO and its alignment with global scientific efforts to address pressures on oceanic and coastal ecosystems.
The symposium brought together scientists, policymakers, fisheries managers, and environmental advocates, fostering dialogue on:
- The implementation of co-management approaches in fisheries
- The development and evaluation of adaptive management strategies
- Innovations in ecosystem restoration
- Mitigation measures for climate-induced marine stressors
Dr. Aguzzi’s participation reinforced SUNBIO’s mission to promote sustainable blue growth, highlighting the role of technology, biodiversity conservation, and socio-ecological integration in driving innovation across marine and coastal sectors.
