The SUNBIO project was presented during the ICM-CSIC / KIOST-ACS JORC / INVEMAR Workshop, held in Santa Marta, Colombia, on 20–21 May 2026.
The workshop, co-organised by ICM-CSIC, brought together researchers and professionals from the Mediterranean and the Caribbean, including Colombian scientists and Korean scientists from KIOST. Its overall objective was to strengthen Mediterranean–Caribbean cooperation through the exchange of experiences on ecological monitoring, restoration and governance, and to identify concrete joint actions, including pilots, publications and future project proposals.
SUNBIO was included in the workshop discussions through the contribution of ICM-CSIC, highlighting the project’s relevance to marine monitoring, restoration and Digital Twin approaches. On 21 May, the programme included a dedicated session on Digital Twin of the Oceans and monitoring systems, with practical applications from ongoing EU projects, including SUNBIO.
In this context, SUNBIO was also featured in project dissemination material prepared by ICM-CSIC, including a presentation by Paula Espina Cámbara on an AI-based decision support tool for offshore renewable energy deployment, developed in connection with the SUNBIO project. The presentation introduced the development of a tool to support more informed site selection by combining marine data, environmental and socioeconomic layers, AI modelling and decision-support workflows.
This activity provided an important opportunity to share SUNBIO’s work with international research communities and to explore future synergies between European, Colombian and Korean partners in the fields of marine monitoring, restoration, governance and sustainable blue innovation.
