The SUNBIO consortium convened for its 12-month plenary meeting on May 8–9, 2025, at the Mediterranean Beach Hotel in Limassol, Cyprus. Organized in a hybrid format by Engitec Systems International Ltd. (ESI), the meeting brought together all project partners and marked a pivotal moment in the initiative’s development.
Building on the technical and conceptual work achieved over the past year, the meeting provided a critical forum for finalizing the design of SUNBIO’s innovative hybrid wave energy converter (WEC), which is uniquely integrated with artificial marine habitat features. These discussions laid the groundwork for the next major phase of the project: the manufacturing of the system’s core components.
With key design decisions now in place, the consortium is poised to begin fabrication activities that will translate months of engineering and ecological planning into tangible technology. As such, this plenary meeting may well prove to be the most decisive of the entire project, marking the transition from concept to construction.
This meeting highlighted not only the project’s technical momentum but also the collaborative spirit of the consortium, reinforcing SUNBIO’s mission to deliver innovative, sustainable solutions for offshore energy alongside the flourishing and protection of marine biodiversity.
